Synopsis
What's love got to do with it
A young Southern débutante temporarily abandons her posh lifestyle and upcoming, semi-arranged marriage to have a lustful and erotic fling with a rugged drifter who works at a local carnival.

Required listening to go along with this review. Volume must be UP.
Two-Moon Junction is the kind of polished, majestic sleaze I wish I could live within the folds of; wrapped among golden cotton fields, old colonial homes, carnival night-life, neon-lit truck stops, American flags dangling from every spot possible, the sweaty washboard abs of a hooligan, and the pale skin of a Southern Belle Goddess. Within the first 17 minutes I had been whipped upside the head with a ballroom sequence, a carny worker who couldn’t be bothered to put a shirt on, and the stunning Sherlyn Fenn pre-Peaks finding herself in a marital conundrum simultaneously moronic and haunting. The film gets under your skin, even with all its…

Review by Filipe Furtado ★★★★ 2
Softcore melodrama treated by Zalman King as there's no way a scene can ever be overheated enough. Southern debutante Sherilyn Fenn (who I will assume got the Twin Peaks job out of this) take a good look at local carnival hunk and more or less decide a pre marriage steamy affair is a good idea. King doesn't treat it as either liberation or cautionary tale as most softcore movies would, but an excuse to explore class difference as sexual kink. Patrick Swayze with better abs gets objectified time and again. King surprising surround his young lovers with a decent stacked cast for cheap softcore (Louise Fletcher, Kristy McNichol, Juanita Moore, Burl Ives, Millie Perkins). His eye and his editing are pretty good, but the movie really works because his sexual imagination is as perverse as his emotions are sincere, that there's no distance between them is the movies achievement.

"you thought I wouldn't know what that word means: LIBIDO... - unchecked desire!"
fuckboy douchebag with a weird zombie looking head wound opens his trouser and the ladies come swarming around it like bees around honey and magically losing their panties. "everything he is, is between his legs."
he's coming with a circus to a town down south and lives through a dark fairy tale, meeting an enigmatic, rich southern girl, permanently dressed in white. an affair starts, one of the wildest kind.
Zalman King takes the jump and run super sleaze scenario fascinatingly serious, pairing an odd arthousian tone of dreamy, magic realism with stylized sex scenes that bear a disturbing sense of authenticity: it's palpably real sex, with…

"I expect to live a double life. Maybe even a triple one, if I get lucky."
No lover of trash can possibly do without the deep-fried Southern softcore classic Two Moon Junction! As provided by YouTube, it's the perfect ribbon with which to wrap up 2022, a smorgasbord of smut courtesy of one of the genre's best-known schlockmeisters, Zalman King, right down to the wonderfully absurd name. (As the IMDb trivia so helpfully informs us regarding the artist's masterwork: "The title may be a pun, given the erotic nature of the film." Thanks, internet.) So if you have a hankering for 80s sax and fretless bass, if your curiosity is piqued to see a pre-Twin Peaks Sherilyn Fenn sporting a…

“Darlin, don’t ever take a southern woman for granted”
Uncontrollable passion. Undeniable heat.So hot!! One of the sexiest movies ever I reckon. It’s trashy, it’s southern, it’s so much damn fun. An erotic classic that I enjoy every time I watch, I’ll never get sick of it.
Sherilyn Fenn is so unbelievably beautiful in this film, that peroxide hair (I live) and delicate face, unbelievable I tell ya, unbelievable. I love that her extreme beauty is juxtaposed by how filthy and sweaty and white trash Richard Tyson is, but he is quite saucy too, his body is stunning (shirtless in every scene), his bulge is impressive (commando in every scene) and finally when he properly gets his 🍆🍆🍆 out it’s marvellous to see. 🫣💦🔥
HOT HOT HOT. Very horny movie.

Holy shit, this is the best. Gratuitous showering, a beefy lead dude who apparently doesn't own a shirt until the last ten minutes, Sherilyn Fenn at her histrionic best, surreal circus scenes, plenty of southern drawl and a gender (and age) swapped version of the Porky's shower gag.
Nobody does this weirdo, regional, blissfully lit erotic trash as well as Zalman King.

Steamy in the sense that there's a huge number of hot showers being taken in this film. I have a bit of a soft spot for '9 1/1 Weeks' - that cover was always there in the video shop when I was younger, informing my notion of what was "erotic" (i.e. chins being tilted and Venetian blinds reflected on walls). I still think it's a sophisticated take on power dynamics in a relationship, and as a result, I have an appreciation for Adrian Lyne's work and Mickey Rourke's face.
Turns out this was written and directed by '9 1/2 Weeks' screenwriter Zalman King. I think someone must have recommended this for one of my female sexual empowerment lists, because it…

The way the carnival is set up by many hunks is shown to be as graceful and beautiful as Sherilyn Fenn's body as she floats in the pool (her Fenn in general, no matter what she does). Who doesn't like three dudes carrying the weight-guessing platform scale thing in slow motion? This is all complemented by sweet sax. Not only that, but the hot hunks heavily contrast the clown imagery. Since many people have irrational fears of clowns, what would happen if all clowns happened to be the hottest clowns you've ever seen? Bulbous pecs, jacked arms. Staying shirtless in blue jeans while wearing a tan and brown jacket (that also has quite the large collar) that nearly drags at…

Anyone who subscribes to auteur theory can't feasibly deny that Zalman King is an auteur. The creator of The Red Shoe Diaries fueled an entire cable and direct-to-video industry the template of mysterious desires + mis en scene + saxophone = female orgasm. There is way too much saxophone in the director's first film, Two Moon Junction, but there's also a lot of visual and verbal artistry. So much so, that I don't think anyone can deny that David Lynch must've been a fan of the King, for here Sherilyn Fenn dances on an empty dance floor for seduction purposes, while a song utilizes finger snaps.
Yes, this is home video erotica but it’s done in the style of Twin…

Steamy and formative.
A floating white lily decides that the river isnt for her. Anti-wealth. Anti-future. A complete cap burst of instant gratification. Looking ahead makes the present dissatisfying.
Decides against stuffy and opulent debutant life of pre-destination and chooses its own path, not realising that path is as treacherous as the former.
sometimes you wanna kill someone. sometimes you wanna fuck them.oh MAN this was sexy and pulpy as all hell. post-shower steam. open shirt nights. late descents into sexual discovery. luscious meditative scenes of want and waver. ohhhh budddy. not to mention this film is shot SO fucking beautiful and dreamy.
shelving the sherilyn fenn connexion, i REFUSE to hear that David Lynch didnt watch this and use it as an influence for Twin Peaks.
